This policy explains what personal information Kihara Cosmetics collects when you use kiharacosmetics.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It is written in plain language on purpose.

Who we are
Kihara Cosmetics formulates and sells natural skin, hair and nail care products from Kingston, Jamaica. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy.
- Address: 5 Ruthven Road, Kingston 10, Jamaica, W.I.
- Email: [email protected]
- Telephone: +1 (876) 305-3139
If you have a question about privacy specifically, email us with Privacy in the subject line and we will route it to the right person.
What we collect, and why
We only ask for information we actually need. Most of this site can be read without giving us anything at all.
When you place an order
To sell and ship a product we need your name, billing and delivery address, email address and telephone number, together with the details of what you ordered. We use this to take payment, deliver your order, handle returns and respond if something goes wrong. We keep a record of the transaction because tax and accounting law requires us to.
We do not see or store your full card number. Payment is handled by PayPal, and depending on how you choose to pay you may be taken to PayPal’s own site to complete it. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed, and a reference — not the card itself.
PayPal is responsible for the information you give it, under its own privacy policy rather than this one. PayPal operates internationally, so a payment may be processed outside Jamaica.
When you create an account
An account stores your name, email address, password (encrypted, never in readable form), saved addresses and order history, so you do not have to type them again. An account is optional; you can check out as a guest.
When you contact us
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you write in the message. We use it to answer you, and we keep the correspondence so we have context if you write again.
When you use the product concierge
The concierge asks about a skin, hair or nail concern and suggests products from our catalogue that address it.
Two things are worth stating plainly, because “AI” tools often work differently:
- What you type is not saved. It is matched against our product catalogue to produce a suggestion and is not written to any database or attached to your account.
- It is not sent to an outside AI service. The matching happens on our own site. Your description does not leave it.
What you describe there may say something about your health. We treat it accordingly, which is why it is not stored. The concierge suggests cosmetics; it is not a medical consultation and does not diagnose anything.
When you comment or leave a review
Comments and reviews are published with the name you give, so choose what you are comfortable being public. We also receive the email address you supply, which is not published.
Automatically, as you browse
Like most sites we receive technical information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and the site that referred you. We use it to keep the site working, to keep it secure, and to understand which pages people find useful.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them for three things:
- Necessary — to remember what is in your basket and keep you signed in. The shop cannot work without these.
- Preferences — to remember choices you have made.
- Measurement — to count visits and see which pages are read. This is aggregate; it is not used to build a profile of you.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, the basket and checkout will not work.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it. We share only what a supplier needs to do a job for us, and only for that purpose:
- PayPal, to take payment and process refunds.
- Delivery and courier companies, to get your parcel to you.
- Our website host and technical suppliers, who keep the site running and secure.
- Automattic, which provides the visitor statistics used on this site.
We will also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is genuinely necessary to protect our rights or someone’s safety. If we are ever involved in a sale or reorganisation of the business, customer records may transfer as part of it, and this policy would continue to apply.
Where your information is held
Kihara Cosmetics is based in Jamaica, and some of our suppliers operate elsewhere, so your information may be processed outside your country. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we have a reason to:
- Order and payment records — for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Account details — until you ask us to close the account.
- Correspondence — for as long as it is useful for supporting you, then deleted.
- Concierge descriptions — not kept at all.
Your rights
Whoever and wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- Show you the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep.
- Send you a copy in a portable format, or send it to someone else.
- Stop or limit a particular use, including marketing.
Email [email protected] and we will respond within the time the law allows. We may need to verify who you are first — that protection exists for your benefit.
Marketing email always carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect regardless of anything else in this policy. We will still send messages about an order you have placed, because those are part of the service, not marketing.
Our mailing list
If you subscribe to our mailing list we store your email address, the date you subscribed and the page you subscribed from, so we can show that consent was given. That list is held in our own website database and is not shared with anyone. If we later move it to an email service provider we will update this policy first and name the provider here.
You can leave at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message we send, or by emailing us. Unsubscribing removes you from the list; we keep a record that the address opted out, so that we do not add it again by mistake.
Customers in Jamaica have rights under the Data Protection Act, 2020, including the right to complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner. Customers in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR, including the right to complain to your national supervisory authority. Residents of California have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what is collected and to opt out of sale — and as stated above, we do not sell personal information. We would always rather you came to us first so we can put something right.
Security
The site runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored in hashed form rather than as readable text, card details are handled by PayPal rather than by us, and access to customer records is limited to people who need it.
We will not tell you that any of this is impossible to defeat, because no honest business can. What we can tell you is that we take it seriously, we keep our software current, and if a breach ever affected your information we would notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
You have a part in this too: use a password you do not use elsewhere, and do not share it.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Other sites
Where we link to another site, that site has its own privacy policy and we are not responsible for it. It is worth reading before you give them anything.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for anything significant we will say so on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
